Zalvania & Co
Privacy & Terms
Plain-language explanations of what we collect and why, and the terms for using the guide and the app.
Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Zalvania and Company (“Zalvania & Co”, “we”, “us”) handles personal information when you use the Zalvania website, the guide, and the app (together, the “Service”). We are the responsible party / data controller for that information.
What we collect
Account. Your email address, used to sign you in with a one-time link. We do not use passwords.
Your profile. What you enter at onboarding: your name, your baby's name, birth type, birth date, and whether you are using Zalvania as a parent or a partner. One profile is shared by the members of a family account.
What you log. Anything you record in the app — mood check-ins and notes, feeding and diaper entries, checklist progress, recovery milestones, and the support tasks you select. This can include health-related information about you and your baby. You choose what to enter; you can leave any of it blank.
Purchases and the email list. If you buy the guide or start a subscription, we store your email address, which product it was, and whether payment succeeded — so we can give you access and send your receipt and download link. If you join the email list, we store your email address and where you signed up.
Payment details. Card and banking details are entered on PayFast's systems, not ours. We never see or store them. PayFast returns only a confirmation and, for subscriptions, a token we use to manage or cancel the plan.
Technical data. Our hosting providers process standard server logs (IP address, request time, browser type) to run the Service securely. We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics, and the only cookie we set is the one that keeps you signed in.
How we use it
To operate the Service for you and your family account: to sign you in, show your recovery guidance and your logs, process your payment, deliver what you bought, send transactional email (sign-in links, receipts, and — if you have a trial — a reminder before it converts), provide support when you ask, keep the Service secure, and meet our legal obligations. If you joined the email list, we use your address to send occasional updates until you unsubscribe.
We do not sell your personal information, share it with advertisers, or use your logs or profile to train machine-learning models.
Who processes it for us
We use a small number of providers who process data on our instructions:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage for the guide download.
- Vercel — website and application hosting.
- PayFast — payment processing for the guide and the subscription.
- Resend — sending transactional and list email.
Some of these providers operate servers outside South Africa, so your information may be processed in other countries. Where that happens we rely on the provider's contractual data-protection commitments.
How long we keep it
Your account and its data are kept while your account is open. When you delete your account (see below) the profile and logs are removed immediately. We keep a minimal record of purchases for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Email-list entries are kept until you unsubscribe.
Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your account and all associated profile and log data at any time from your account page. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. To be removed from the email list, use the unsubscribe link in any list email. For anything else, email hello@zalvania.com.
Your rights
Subject to the law that applies to you, you can ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, or restrict how we use it, and you can object to a particular use. Most of this you can do yourself in the app; for the rest, contact us and we will respond within the time the law allows. If you are in South Africa and have a complaint we cannot resolve, you may approach the Information Regulator.
Children
The Service is for adults. It is designed to be used by a parent or their partner. Information about a baby is entered by the adult using the account, who is responsible for it. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access is restricted to what each part of the Service needs, and payment details never touch our servers. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will tell you and the relevant regulator if a breach affects you and the law requires it.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change we will update the date above and, where it is significant, tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.

Terms of Service
These terms are an agreement between you and Zalvania and Company (“Zalvania & Co”) for your use of the Service. By creating an account or buying the guide, you agree to them.
What Zalvania is — and is not
Zalvania provides general educational information and organisational tools for the period after birth. It is not medical advice, not a diagnosis, and not a substitute for care from a qualified professional. Always speak to your doctor or midwife about your health and your baby's health, and follow their guidance over anything in the Service. If you think you or your baby may be experiencing an emergency, contact your local emergency services.
Eligibility and your account
You must be 18 or older to use the Service. Keep your email account secure, since sign-in links go there. A family account may be shared between a parent and their partner; everyone with access can see and change the shared profile and logs, and the account holder is responsible for who they invite.
The guide — one-time purchase
The Fourth Trimester Survival Guide is a digital product sold for a one-time fee (shown at checkout, currently USD 24.99). After payment is confirmed you get a private, time-limited download link, and a copy is emailed to you. The download is for your personal use; please don't redistribute or resell it. If it isn't right for you, email us within 7 days of purchase and we'll refund you in full — no questions asked.
The app — subscription
The app is billed monthly (shown at checkout, currently USD 9.00) after a 7-day free trial. You are not charged during the trial. If you do nothing, the subscription begins at the end of the trial and renews each month until you cancel. We send a reminder before the trial converts.
You can cancel at any time from your account page — no email or phone call needed. If you cancel during the trial you are never charged. If you cancel later, your access continues until the end of the period you have paid for, and it does not renew. Payments and recurring billing are handled by PayFast under their terms.
We may change the price or what each plan includes. If a change affects what you already pay, we will tell you by email first and you can cancel before it takes effect.
Emergency and “when to seek care” content stays available to you even on the free plan or after a trial or subscription ends — we never put safety information behind billing.
Using the Service responsibly
Please don't misuse the Service: no attempting to break its security, access other families' data, scrape or copy its content for republication, or use it unlawfully. We may suspend an account that does.
Content and ownership
The guidance, text, and design in the Service belong to Zalvania & Co and are licensed to you for personal use only. What you enter — your profile and logs — stays yours; you give us only the permission needed to store and show it back to you as part of running the Service.
Availability and disclaimers
We work to keep the Service running but do not guarantee it will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, the Service is provided “as is”, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for decisions made in reliance on educational content that should have involved a health professional. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Changes and governing law
We may update these terms; if a change is material we will notify you before it takes effect. These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction, unless mandatory consumer law where you live says otherwise.
